Opens on 18 November 2023 as a permanent exhibition in the former Angli factory.

Approximately 70 years ago, Aage Damgaard challenged conventions by inviting artists into the shirt factory Angli in Herning to unite art and work in the factory workshops.

Artists such as Paul Gadegaard, Sven Dalsgaard, Svend Wiig Hansen, Carl-Henning Pedersen, Robert Jacobsen, and Piero Manzoni contributed to shape the artistic avantgarde at Angli, all the while Miles Davis could be heard over the factory loudspeakers, and Aage Damgaard invited his workers to factory concerts during working hours. Artists like Wanda Tworek, Victor Cornelius, and Lulu Ziegler performed in the cafeteria, where music and art were naturally discussed and got under the skin of both employees and visits.

Damgaard’s courage and initiative are celebrated in the Angli Avantgarde exhibition, which will present an impression of the innovative and artistic environment created at Angli during that period through both sound and image.

The exhibition is part of the Art & Sound project launched at Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelt’s Museum in 2018 to “let art talk about art”. The museum has engaged the Danish composer Ditte Rønn as ‘house composer’ to create a yearly sound work based on the museum collection. This has resulted in fascinating and unique experiences for the museum visitors over the years. Inspired by the artistic and musical environment at Angli, Ditte Rønn has created the LP “Angli Avantgarden” (The Angli Avantgarde), which was introduced at the Moor Jazz Festival 2022 and is available at the museum shop. The LP can be enjoyed as part of the exhibition.
