Exhibition Catalogue: Svavar Gudnason – Landskab og Abstraktion (Landscape and Abstraction)

Landscape and Abstraction is a retrospective of works by the Icelandic painter Svavar Gudnason. He introduced the abstract style of painting in Iceland, developed through his association with the Danish art scene. During the 1935-1945 period he was part of the circle around the Høst-group exhibitions, and in 1948-1951 he was a member of the international Cobra movement.

Svavar Gudnason made a significant contribution to spontaneous-abstract painting in Denmark, but his style is influenced by the Icelandic nature and has its own very special keynote. This large-scale  exhibition, presented in the spring, offers a comprehensive insight into his artistic production.

The exhibition is organized by the museum in Herning in collaboration with the Cobra Museum, Amstelveen, where it will be shown in the fall of 2012. After the presentation in Herning, it will be shown at Skovhuset  near Søndersø, Værløse.
