PANTA REI

Panta Rei is an electro-acoustic sound work for 8 sound speakers created by Ditte Rønn in conversation with paintings by Carl-Henning Pedersen (1913-2007). In the sound work Rønn not only responds to the paintings but also to Pedersen's clear vision and driving force.

The sound work consists of 9 movements of 2-7 minutes' duration each - about 45 minutes in total - and contains recordings of compositions and improvisations for classical soprano, violin, bratsch, cello, etc. In combination with Rønn's own contribution the sound is edited electronically to create the multi-layered sound universe that can be experienced in the exhibition hall.

In creating the sound work Ditte Rønn stands shoulder to shoulder with the Danish CoBrA artist Carl-Henning Pedersen whose messages and philosophical ideas have been as inspiring to her as his paintings.

The building blocks in Panta Rei are soprano, string trio and plenty of percussion by, among others, soprano Cæcilie Cramon. The sound work has been recorded without any effects and consists of both written and open compositions as well as semi-guided improvisations. The final result has been edited electronically in cooperation with sound technician Kim Engelbredt.
