During his long life, lasting 93 years, Carl-Henning Pedersen carried out several large-scale decoration assignments. Several of them are found in the immediate vicinity of the museum, with the museum's own colourful, ceramic design as the centre. It is a shared feature of his decorations that they all add something to the public space. Over the years this has led to exchanges of opinion and sometimes a mixed reception by the public.

The summer exhibition Between Heaven and Earth focuses on the two largest decorations by Carl-Henning Pedersen: Ribe Cathedral and The Museum of Danish Resistance. The sketches for the glass painting “The Light of Liberty”, created for The Museum of Danish Resistance will be exhibited for the first time ever. (Carl-Henning Pedersen's glass painting survived the recent fire at The Resistance Museum, but is now in storage).

The exhibition also presents a selection of sketches for probably the most debated decoration assignment in recent times: Carl-Henning Pedersen's decoration for Ribe Cathedral. The sketches convey a sense of Carl-Henning Pedersen's work process and, not least of the debate, past and present, concerning the decoration of Ribe Cathedral.
